Red Deer with no new COVID cases, one death

For the second time in four days, Red Deer reported no new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. That leaves the city’s overall total during the pandemic at 5,751.

Recoveries are up 11 to 5,635 while the number of active cases in Red Deer dropped by 12 to sit at 54.

Sadly, Red Deer has recorded another death linked to COVID-19 – a man in his 60s who passed away June 20 – bringing the total to 41.

The Central Zone as a whole has 179 active cases, down 26 from Monday, and 18 hospitalizations (down two), including six in the ICU at Red Deer Regional Hospital. There have now been 166 deaths in the zone linked to COVID-19.

Across the province, Alberta reported just 57 new cases on Tuesday out of 5,019 test results for a positivity rate of about 1.4 per cent.

Active cases are down 230 to 1,773. Seventy per cent of them (1,245) are variant cases of concern.

There are 200 Albertans in hospital because of COVID-19, down 14 from Monday, and 54 in intensive care, down two.

The province’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is now 2,290.

Alberta has delivered 3,854,208 vaccine doses as of June 21. 70.8 percent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (60.3% total population) and 30.4 percent are fully vaccinated (25.9% total population).

In Red Deer, 57,736 people have received at least one dose while 28,982 are fully vaccinated with two doses.
