Red Deer with one new COVID case Sunday, active count at 70

Red Deer has 70 active cases of COVID-19 as of Sunday, according to the latest numbers from the province. That’s down one from Saturday and is the city’s lowest active case count since early November.

Recoveries are up two to 5,636 as Red Deer saw just one new case in the past 24 hours for a total of 5,746.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 40.

The Central Zone as a whole has 218 active cases as of Sunday and 21 hospitalizations, including seven in the ICU at Red Deer Regional Hospital. There have been 165 deaths in the zone linked to COVID-19.

Across Alberta on Sunday, 100 new COVID cases were reported out of 4,878 tests for a positivity rate of nearly five per cent.

Active cases are down 43 to 2,127.

There are 214 Albertans in hospital because of COVID-19, down seven, and 53 in intensive care, up four.

One new death linked to COVID-19 was reported in the last 24 hours to bring the province’s total to 2,290.

Alberta has delivered 3,775,674 vaccine doses as of June 19. 70.6 percent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (60.1% total population) and 28.6 percent are fully vaccinated (24.3% total population).

In Red Deer, 57,310 people have received at least one dose while 28,108 are fully vaccinated with two doses.
