About 63% of Red Deerians have one dose, nearly 30% fully vaccinated

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count is down another two in the last day to 71.

After hitting a record high active caseload of 911 on May 8 (six weeks ago), the active caseload has now dropped to a point not seen since before the city’s first of three waves. The last time the active case total was this low was Nov. 4 when there were 63.

Recoveries sit at 5,634, an increase of 11 over the last day as the total number of cases attributed to Red Deer rose by nine to 5,745. The number of deaths in Red Deer linked to COVID-19 is 40, with the last one reported May 31.

In the past week, the city has added just 30 cases, with 78 recoveries, and zero deaths.

According to the province’s interactive vaccination map, 57,453 Red Deer residents have received at least one dose of vaccine, up 277 in the last day. That includes 27,413 people who are fully vaccinated, an increase in the last day of 1,660.

That means of approximately 91,672 eligible (aged 12+) Red Deerians, 62.7 per cent have received at least one dose, while 29.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.

At least one dose figures are up 1,189 over the last seven days, while full vaccination numbers for the city are up 7,585.

The Central Zone has 226 active cases of Saturday, a drop of 27 in the last 24 hours. There are 22 hospitalizations, down one, and six people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday. The zone has had 165 deaths, with none reported today.

Over the last seven days, Central Zone’s active caseload has gone down from 381 to 226.

Hospitalizations have gone from 27 to 22, while the number of patients in ICU at Red Deer Regional went from five to six.

PROVINCE

Province-wide, Alberta confirmed 127 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday. That’s out of 5,055 test results for a positivity rate of ~2.5 per cent. The seven-day positivity rate is currently 2.68 per cent.

Active cases in the province total 2,170, down 166 in the last 24 hours. Recoveries are up to 226,800, with a total of 231,259 confirmed cases in Alberta since the pandemic began.

There are 221 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, down 16 from Friday, including 49 in intensive care, down nine.

Six additional deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours to bring the province’s total to 2,289. Details:

Alberta has administered 3,721,419 doses of COVID-19 vaccine as of June 18. 70.4 per cent (+0.2) of the eligible population aged 12+ has received at least one dose, while 27.3 per cent (+1.5) is fully vaccinated. More vaccination data is here.

In the last week, Alberta has administered 384,569 doses of vaccine for a daily average of 54,938 over the last week. That’s up from the previous seven-day average of 46,185.
