Red Deer sees lowest active caseload since November, 0 new cases

For the first time since Oct. 6, Red Deer has added zero new cases of COVID-19 over a 24-hour period.

The total stands at 5,736, while recoveries went up by 11 to 5,623.

Meantime, Red Deer is down to 73 active cases of COVID-19 as of Friday, according to the latest numbers from the province.

That’s down 11 from Thursday’s total of 84, and continues a downward trend that began after the city peaked at 911 active cases on May 8. That’s the lowest total since Nov. 4 when there was 63. That was at the very start of Red Deer’s first wave.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 40, with the last oe reported May 31.

The Central Zone as a whole has 253 active cases as of Friday, down 31, and 23 hospitalizations, down one, including six receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up two. The Central Zone has had 165 deaths linked to COVID-19, with one reported today.

Across Alberta, another 124 cases of COVID-19 were announced Friday out of 5,574 test results for a positivity rate of ~2.2 per cent.

Active cases across the province are down to 2,336, a one-day decrease of 135.

There are 237 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down five, including 58 in intensive care, the same as yesterday.

Three new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past day to bring the province’s total to 2,283.

· Date of death: June 3. A male in his 60s in Central Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: June 15. A male in his 40s in North Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: June 17. A male in his 60s linked to the outbreak at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary Zone. The case included comorbidities.

When it comes to vaccinations, 57,176 Red Deerians have now received at least one dose, up 243 in the last day. Of those, 25,753 are fully immunized with two doses, up 1,283.

Across the province 3,654,750 vaccine doses have now been delivered, with 70.2 per cent of eligible Albertans having received at least one dose and 25.8 per cent now fully immunized.
