Alberta moving to Stage 3 of reopening on Canada Day

Jun 18, 2021 | 1:12 PM

Albertans have another reason to celebrate Canada Day this year.

The province will move to Stage 3 of the Open for Summer plan on July 1.

“Yesterday Alberta officially surpassed the 70 per cent vaccination threshold to trigger Stage 3 of Alberta’s open for summer plan, with 70.2 per cent of eligible Albertans receiving their first vaccine dose,” Premier Jason Kenney announced today.

Restrictions eased in Stage 3 of the Open for Summer Plan, effective July 1

• All remaining restrictions will be lifted, including the ban on indoor social gatherings.

• Isolation requirements for confirmed cases of COVID-19 and protective measures in continuing care settings may remain.

• The general indoor provincial mask mandate will be lifted, but masking may still be required in limited and specific settings.

Anyone in Alberta aged 18 and over can still enter the first Open for Summer Lottery draw for a chance to win $1 million. Registration closes at 11:59 p.m. on June 24 and proof of vaccination will be required to claim the prize. The winner will be announced on July 1.

Health Minister Tyler Shandro announced Friday that Albertans who received their first vaccine dose in May can begin booking their second dose appointments today – 11 days earlier than previously planned.

Anyone who received a first mRNA dose in June can also now book their second dose once four weeks have passed since their first shot.
