Red Deer down to 95 active COVID cases

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 cases count has dipped below 100.

There are 95 active cases in the city as of Wednesday, according to the latest numbers from the province. That’s down from Tuesday’s total of 102 and is Red Deer’s lowest total since March 17 when there was also 96 active cases.

Recoveries are up 10 to 5,597 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose just three to 5,732.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 40.

The Central Zone as a whole has 314 active cases as of Tuesday and 26 hospitalizations, including five receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The Central Zone has had 163 deaths linked to COVID-19.

Across Alberta another 153 cases of COVID-19 were announced Wednesday out of 6,708 test results for a positivity rate of 2.3 per cent.

Active cases across the province are down to 2,639.

There are 255 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down 16, including 67 in intensive care, down one.

Four new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past day bringing the province’s total to 2,278.

3,533,434 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta with 69.7 percent of 12+ population having received at least one dose and 23.1 percent now fully vaccinated.
