“Gang violence has no place in our communities"

Province announces grant program to prevent youth involvement in gangs

Organizations looking to keep youth out of gangs can apply for up to $50,000.

The Alberta Government announced the Community Mobilization Grant, which Justice Minister Kaycee Madu explains allows communities to develop plans that help to stop youth from getting involved in gangs and support those who want to leave gangs.

“Gang violence has no place in our communities. These grants will mobilize communities and help strengthen our efforts to prevent, disrupt and tackle youth gang activity in Alberta.”

Non-profits, community-based coalitions and networks, and Indigenous communities are able to apply.

• Developing strategic frameworks for gang violence prevention that includes an environmental scan and a multi-sector approach that focuses on vulnerable youth
• Coordinating and engage stakeholders, and develop program plans
• Bringing stakeholders together for a coordinated, collaborative approach
• Raising awareness of the issue of youth involvement in gang activity

Altogether, the province looks to doll out $400,000 in grants.
