Dominant 15U AAA Braves go 4-0 on opening weekend

The Red Deer U15AAA Ernco Braves got off to a hot start to their 2021 season over the weekend with four straight wins.

They started their weekend on Saturday with a 10-0 upset win over the Edmonton Padres, led by a solid pitching performance from Tanner Morrow who gave up just two hits while racking up 11 strikeouts.

Luke Schmitt, Nathan Flewelling, Morrow, Avery Coumont, Noah Nakonechny, Addison Giesbrecht and Brett Belich each collected one hit to lead the Braves.

In game two of their Saturday doubleheader, the Braves pounded the Padres 11-0.

Flewelling got the call on the mound and tossed the shutout, allowing just one hit and recording an impressive 18 strikeouts; while a five-run fourth inning broke things open for Red Deer.

The Braves totaled 18 hits in the victory, including three each from Evan Russell and Avery Coumont.

In game three on Sunday, the Braves again blanked the Padres 11-0, keyed by an eight-run first inning on RBIs from Flewelling, Giesbrecht, Coumont, Belich and Russell.

Jake Brooks earned the win for Red Deer. The right-hander went four innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out seven and walking zero. Russell threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Brooks also went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Braves in hits.

In the fourth and final game of the weekend, the Braves once again blanked the Padres 10-0 as five pitchers combined to throw a shutout.

Luke Schmitt pitched the first inning and got credit for the win with Wyatt McKeen, Avery Coumont, Addison Giesbrecht, and Brett Hall all seeing time on the mound.

Red Deer had 11 hits in the game.

The Braves did not commit an error in any of the four games.
