Red Deer down to 137 active COVID cases

Red Deer is down to 137 active cases of COVID-19 as of Friday, according to the latest numbers from the province. That’s down 13 from Thursday’s total of 150 and the city’s lowest total since were 132 active cases on March 23.

Recoveries are up 21 to 5,537 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose eight to 5,714.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 40.

The Central Zone as a whole has 456 active cases as of Friday and 29 hospitalizations, including six receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The Central Zone has had 160 deaths linked to COVID-19.

Across Alberta another 170 cases of COVID-19 were announced Friday out of 6,682 test results for a positivity rate of 2.5 per cent.

Active cases across the province are down to 3,529, a one-day decrease of 272.

There are 296 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down 10, including 79 in intensive care, down two.

Three new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past day to bring the province’s total to 2,265.

When it comes to vaccinations, 55,740 Red Deerians have now received at least one dose and 17,408 are fully immunized with two doses.

Across the province 3,215,144 vaccine doses have now been delivered, with 67.8 per cent of eligible Albertans having received at least one dose and 16.7 per cent now fully immunized.
