$100,000 available through new Community Grant Kickstart Program

Jun 9, 2021 | 2:22 PM

Rocky Mountain House town council has approved the new Community Grant Kickstart Program.

During council’s June 1 regular meeting, $100,000 was approved to help alleviate the strain brought on by COVID-19. The Town will be taking the funds for the program from accumulated surplus.

Community organizers that operate within town will be able to apply for a maximum of $5,000 in grant support for events such as music/art festivals, talent shows, fundraising dinners etc. Legislative Services Clerk Renée Hartling stated that the examples given were only there to generate ideas and that groups can decide what type of event they wish to do.

Some of the stipulations are that the event must be open to the public, held within Town limits or a Town-owned facility, and must purchase items for the event from a local business. The event must also take place this year. Councillor Merrin Fraser clarified that whatever the event is, it doesn’t have to be a single day event. It can go over multiple days and weeks.

Mayor Tammy Burke shared her excitement for the event stating, “I was up all night last night thinking about the things that could be done with this, really, the sky’s the limit…I’m excited to see what the community comes up with.”

Administration has said they will make the application a PDF and have simplified it as much as they could, and will be making it publicly available as soon as possible.
