Upbeat hiring climate anticipated for Red Deer

For the first time in quite a while there’s a sense of optimism among local employers.

According to the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey, Red Deer area employers expect an upbeat hiring climate for the third quarter of 2021.

“Survey data reveals that 18% of employers plan to hire for the upcoming quarter, while 3% anticipate cutbacks,” stated Randy Upright, CEO of Manpower’s Alberta Region. “Another 74% of employers plan to maintain their current staffing levels in the upcoming quarter, while the remaining 5% of employers are unsure of their hiring intentions.”

With seasonal variations removed from the data, Red Deer’s third quarter Net Employment Outlook of +18% is a sixteen-percentage point increase when compared to the previous quarterly Outlook, said Upright. It is also a 19-percentage point increase from the Outlook reported during the same time last year, indicating a favourable hiring pace for the upcoming months.

“Widespread vaccination and settling of the pandemic may well be contributing to an increase in employers planning to return to workplace-based working for the third quarter of 2021,” said Darlene Minatel, Country Manager of ManpowerGroup Canada. “With all ten industry sectors expecting to hire in the upcoming quarter, and hiring intentions steady across all four regions, there will continue to be opportunities for job seekers.

“Looking back to the third quarter of 2020 — the weakest quarter for employment Outlook since the survey began in 1978, the Employment Outlook has increased significantly in just one year. A national Outlook of +8% for Q3 2021 puts us exactly on par with pre-pandemic Outlooks.”
