13,300+ Red Deerians now fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 continues its downward trend after the third wave peaked on May 8.

Friday’s numbers from the province show the city with 212 active cases, down six from Thursday.

Recoveries are up 21 to 5,399 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose 15 to 5,651.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 40.

54,748 Red Deerians have received at least one dose of COVID vaccine, up 550 from two days ago. Of those, 13,349 are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 2,819 since Wednesday.

The Central Zone as a whole has 713 active cases as of Friday, down 32, and 45 hospitalizations, down two, including 11 receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday.The Central Zone has had 158 deaths linked to COVID-19, including one reported today.

Across the province, Alberta reported 244 new cases on Friday out of 5,818 test results for a positivity rate of ~4.1 per cent in the last day, and 5.3 per cent over the last week.

Active cases across the province are down to 5,415, a one-day decrease of 416.

There are 379 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down 32, including 108 in intensive care, down 12.

Seven new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past day to bring the province’s total to 2,243. Details are as follows:

· Date of death: Feb. 25. A male in his 30s in Central Zone. There are no known comorbidities at this time.

· Date of death: June 2. A male in his 20s in North Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: June 2. A female in her 60s in Edmonton Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: June 2. A male in his 60s in Edmonton Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: June 2. A female in her 80s in North Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: June 2. A male in his 70s in Edmonton Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: June 2. A male in his 70s in Calgary Zone. The case included comorbidities.

Provincially, 2,951,927 vaccine doses have been administered, with 65.3 per cent of the eligible population (12+) having received at least one dose, while 12.2 per cent is fully vaccinated.
