Red Deer now at 218 active COVID-19 cases

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count continues its downward trend.

Thursday’s numbers from the province show the city with 218 active cases, down 12 from Wednesday.

Recoveries are up 24 to 5,378 to with the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rising 12 to 5,636.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 40.

Local vaccination data was not readily available Thursday afternoon. Yesterday’s data showed 54,198 Red Deerians have received at least one dose, including 10,530 who are fully vaccinated with two doses.

The Central Zone as a whole has 745 active cases as of Thursday, down 43, with 47 hospitalizations, down six, including 11 receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday. The Central Zone has had 157 deaths linked to COVID-19, with none reported today.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw shared data Thursday proving why COVID-19 vaccines are important.

Since January 1, 2021, in Alberta:

  • 96% of COVID-19 cases were for people who were not vaccinated or occurred within two weeks of getting their first dose
  • 93% of COVID-19 hospitalizations were for people who were not vaccinated or occurred within two weeks of getting their first dose
  • 88% of COVID-19 deaths were for people who were not vaccinated or occurred within two weeks of getting their first dose

Alberta has now delivered 2,888,005 vaccine doses, with 64.6 per cent of eligible Albertans (12+) having received at least one dose and 11.3 per cent fully vaccinated with two doses.

Across the province, Alberta reported 296 new cases on Thursday out of ~6,800 test results for a positivity rate of ~4.6 per cent.

Active cases across the province are down to 5,831, a one-day decrease of 474.

There are 411 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down 24, including 120 in intensive care, down two.

Five new deaths linked to COVID-19 was reported in the past day to bring the province’s total to 2,236. Details are as follows:

· Date of death: June 1: A male in his 80s in Edmonton Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: June 1. A female in her 70s in Edmonton Zone. There are no known comorbidities at this time.

· Date of death: June 1. A male in his 70s in Edmonton Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: June 2. A female in her 50s in Edmonton Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: June 2. A male in his 80s in Calgary Zone. The case included comorbidities.
