Red Deer with 239 active COVID-19 cases

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer continues to fall.

On Tuesday, Alberta Health reported Red Deer’s active case count at 239, down 31 from Monday and making for an active case rate of 224.6 per 100 thousand population.

Five new cases were identified in the city on Tuesday, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases recorded in the community since the start of the pandemic to 5,611. Recoveries also increased by 36 to 5,332.

The number of deaths in Red Deer attributed to COVID-19, meanwhile, remains at 40.

Provincially, Alberta reported 209 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the total number of active cases in the province now to 6,771 – down 875 from Monday.

140 new variant cases were also identified, bringing the total number of active variant cases in the province to 3,274 or 48 per cent of all active cases.

With 4,100 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the test positivity rate is roughly 5.1 per cent.

438 Albertans are currently in hospital with COVID-19, down one from Monday, while 127 of those patients are in ICU – down six from Monday.

One more death has also been reported, a male in his 80s from the Edmonton Zone on May 30. That brings the virus’ death toll in Alberta to 2,228.

In Alberta Health Services (AHS) Central Zone, there are 826 active cases – down 97 from Monday, with 50 hospitalizations – the same as Monday, and 13 of those patients in intensive care – up one from Monday.

Central Zone remains with 156 deaths linked to COVID-19.
