Red Deer with lowest active case count since April 12

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count continues trending downward.

Monday’s numbers from the province show the city with 270 active cases, down from 287 on Sunday.

Recoveries are up 25 to 5,296 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose nine to 5,606.

Red Deer’s death toll from the virus is now 40, including one reported Monday, which is the first since May 19.

As of midnight Sunday, 53,696 Red Deerians have received at least one dose of COVID vaccine, up just 40, and 10,101 of those are fully vaccinated with two doses, which is up 96.

Central Zone has 923 active cases as of Monday, down 51, 50 hospitalizations, up one, and 12 of those people are receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital (RDRH), the same as yesterday.

Alberta Health Services clarified to rdnewsNOW Monday that RDRH has a 12-bed ICU, which can ultimately be expanded to 28 if the need arises. Between COVID patients and patients in the ICU for other ailments, there are 18 beds currently filled.

The Central Zone has had 156 deaths linked to COVID-19, including two reported in the past 24 hours.

Province-wide, Alberta reported 263 new cases on Monday out of 4,411 test results for a positivity rate of ~6.0 per cent.

Active cases across the province are down to 7,646 , a one-day decrease of 427.

There are 439 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down seven, including 133 in intensive care, down five.

Eight new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past day to bring the province’s total to 2,227.

· Date of death: May 29. A female in her 70s in Edmonton Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: May 30. A male in his 60s in North Zone. There are no known comorbidities at this time.

· Date of death: May 30. A female in her 90s in Edmonton Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: May 30. A male in his 80s in Edmonton Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: May 30. A male in his 50s in Calgary Zone. The case included comorbidities.

Alberta has now administered 2,781,430 vaccine doses, with 62.8 per cent of eligible Albertans having received at least one dose and 10.2 per cent fully vaccinated with two doses.
