Red Deer falls below 300 active COVID cases

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count has dropped below the 300 mark.

Sunday’s numbers from the province show the city with 287 active cases, down 14 from Saturday.

Recoveries are up 33 to 5,271 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose 19 to 5,597.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 39.

53,656 Red Deerians have received at least one dose of COVID vaccine, including 10,005 who are fully vaccinated with two doses.

The Central Zone as a whole has 974 active cases as of Sunday, and 49 hospitalizations, including 12 receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The Central Zone has had 154 deaths linked to COVID-19.

Across the province, Alberta reported 391 new cases on Friday out of 6,586 test results for a positivity rate of 5.9 per cent.

Active cases across the province are down to 8,073.

There are 446 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, including 138 in intensive care.

Five new deaths linked to COVID-19 was reported in the past day to bring the province’s total to 2,219.
