Red Deer down to 368 active COVID cases

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count continues its downward trend.

Thursday’s numbers from the province show the city with 368 active cases, down 31 from Wednesday.

Recoveries are up 49 to 5,133 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose 18 to 5,540.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 39.

51,796 Red Deerians have received at least one dose of COVID vaccine, including 8,726 who are fully vaccinated with two doses.

The Central Zone as a whole has 1,145 active cases as of Thursday, down 95, and 53 hospitalizations, including 12 receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The Central Zone has had 154 deaths linked to COVID-19.

Across the province, Alberta reported 513 new cases on Thursday out of 9,017 test results for a positivity rate of 5.6 per cent.

Active cases across the province are down to 10,017, a one-day decrease of 917.

There are 538 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down 10, including 150 in intensive care, down seven.

There were 312 new variant cases of concern identified over the past 24 hours. Variants now make up 34 per cent (3,409) of Alberta’s active case count.

One new death linked to COVID-19 was reported in the past day to bring the province’s total to 2,199.

Alberta has now delivered 2,615,747 vaccine doses, including 37,170 doses on Wednesday, with 50.4 percent of eligible Albertans having received at least one dose and 8.1 per cent ( 363,926) fully vaccinated with two doses.
