Rebels Grubbe, Masters crack final rankings for NHL Draft

May 27, 2021 | 11:25 AM

Two members of the Red Deer Rebels have made NHL Central Scouting’s final rankings for the 2021 NHL Draft.

Centre Jayden Grubbe is ranked 63rd among North American Skaters while defenceman Kyle Masters is 93rd.

Grubbe was named Rebels named team captain on March 5 and had a goal and two assists in five games before suffering a season-ending knee injury March 12 versus Lethbridge. The 18-year-old Calgary native is expected to make a full recovery in time for the start of the 2021-2022 season.

Masters, 18, from Edmonton, collected 10 assists in 20 games played this season and logged a ton of ice time anchoring an injury-ravaged Rebels defence corps.

Both Grubbe and Masters were selected by the Rebels in the first round of the 2018 WHL Draft.

The 2021 NHL Draft will be held on July 23–24.

The Rebels announced on Thursday that the contracts of Assistant Coach Brad Flynn and Goaltending Coach Kraymer Barnstable will not be renewed for the 2021-22 season.

“Brad and Kraymer are good men, and we wish them nothing but success in their future endeavours,” Rebels President and General Manager Brent Sutter said in a statement.
