Red Deer with 399 active COVID cases

For the first time since April 17, Red Deer has fewer than 400 active cases of COVID-19.

Wednesday’s numbers from the province show the city with 399 active cases, down 10 from Tuesday.

Recoveries are up 24 to 5,084 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose 14 to 5,522.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 39.

51,087 Red Deerians have now received at least one dose of COVID vaccine, including 8,491 who are fully vaccinated with two doses.

The Central Zone as a whole has 1,230 active cases as of Wednesday, down 59, and 53 hospitalizations, including 13 receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The Central Zone has had 154 deaths linked to COVID-19.

Across the province, Alberta reported 390 new cases on Wednesday out of 5,979 test results for a positivity rate of 6.5 per cent.

Active cases in the province are down to 10,953, a one-day decrease of 1,125.

There are 548 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down 17, including 157 in intensive care, down one.

There were 136 new variant cases of concern identified over the past 24 hours. Variants now make up 31.5 per cent (3,460) of Alberta’s active case count.

A total of six new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past day to bring the province’s total to 2,198.

Alberta has now delivered 2,578,577 vaccine doses, including 26,240 doses on Tuesday, with 58.3 percent of eligible Albertans having received at least one dose and 9.4 per cent (357,963) are fully vaccinated with two doses.
