Charges pending in Highland Green shooting

Red Deer RCMP have released an update on a shooting that occurred in the Highland Green neighbourhood on Monday.

Mounties say it was at 3:29 p.m. when they received a report that a vehicle had been shot at while driving past a residence on Hepworth Close. Police contained the scene and the RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called for assistance.

During the initial stages of the investigation, a residence was identified and two individuals were detained. These individuals were released a short time later as officers determined they were not involved. Further investigation led officers to a nearby residence, where the alleged shooter was identified and arrested without incident.

No one was injured in the shooting.

Red Deer RCMP say their investigation is ongoing and charges are pending. They also say this incident is not related to “other events that occurred in Red Deer this past weekend,” including the fatal shooting of a man by police officers at the Red Deer Regional Hospital parkade.
