Red Deer down to 480 active COVID cases

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count continues trending downward.

Monday’s numbers from the province show the city with 480 active cases, down from 96 on Sunday.

Recoveries are up 40 to 4,979 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose 24 to 5,498.

Red Deer’s death toll from the virus remains 39.

More than 50,000 Red Deerians (50,823) have received at least one dose of COVID vaccine, including 8,395 who are fully vaccinated with two doses.

The Central Zone as a whole has 1,489 active cases as of Monday and 52 hospitalizations, including 13 receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The Central Zone has had 153 deaths linked to COVID-19, including two reported in the past 24 hours – a man in his 80s on May 22 and a man in his 90s on May 23.

Province-wide, Alberta reported 452 new cases on Monday out of 5,085 test results for a positivity rate of 8.8 per cent.

Active cases across the province are down to 13,608, a one-day decrease of 925.

There are 569 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down 12, including 161 intensive care, down one.

There were 237 new variant cases of concern identified over the past 24 hours. Variants now make up 29 per cent (3,978) of Alberta’s active case count.

A total of seven new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past day to bring the province’s total to 2,183.

Alberta has now delivered 2,532,143 vaccine doses, with 48.7 percent of eligible Albertans having received at least one dose and 7.9 per cent fully vaccinated with two doses.
