Nearly 46,000 Red Deerians with one vaccine dose, active cases down to 605

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count was down for the seventh-straight day Wednesday.

The latest numbers from the province show the city with 605 active cases, a decrease of 29 from Tuesday and the lowest total since April 24.

Recoveries are up to 4,736, an increase of 63 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose 35 to 5,380.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is now 39 with the latest being a man in his 50s who passed away May 17.

The latest figures as of end of day May 18 show 45,850 Red Deerians have received at least one dose of vaccine, including 7,688 who are fully vaccinated with two doses.

The Central Zone has 1,978 active cases as of Wednesday, a decrease of 76 in the past 24 hours. There are 67 hospitalizations, down one, and 13 people are now receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday. The zone has had 150 deaths linked to the virus, including the one reported today in Red Deer.

Province-wide, Alberta reported another 908 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday out of 10,392 test results for a positivity rate of 8.7 per cent.

Across the province, there are now 18,813 active cases, down 1,200 in one day, and recoveries eclipsed a new milestone with a total of 200,496.

There are now 685 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, a drop of six from Tuesday. There are 185 people in the ICU, down two, and there have been six more deaths linked to the virus bringing the province’s total to 2,158.

· Date of death: May 17. A male in his 50s in Central Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: May 17. A male in his 60s in Edmonton Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: May 18. A female in her 60s in North Zone. The case included comorbidities.

Alberta delivered 2,271,955 doses of COVID-19 vaccine as of Tuesday.
