Red Deer drops back below 800 active cases

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count dropped again on Saturday from 802 to 760.

After hitting a record high active caseload of 911 last Saturday, that number has dropped 16.6 per cent.

Recoveries sit at 4,449, an increase of 97 over the last day as the total number of cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 55 to 5,247. The number of deaths in Red Deer linked to COVID-19 is 38, the same as yesterday.

In the past week, the city has added 326 cases, 476 recoveries, and one death.

Red Deer’s active case rate is now 714.3 per 100,000 people, 11th highest in the province. That is down from 856 a week ago, which was 10th highest.

Province-wide, Alberta confirmed 1,195 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday. That’s out of 12,926 test results for a positivity rate of 9.2 per cent.

Active cases in the province total 22,993, down 880 in the last 24 hours. Recoveries are up to 192,688, with a total of 217,821 cases confirmed in Alberta since the pandemic began.

There are 686 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, down 27 from Friday, including 178 in intensive care, up one.

Three additional deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours to bring the province’s total to 2,140. The latest deaths include:

· Date of death: 5/13/2021. A male in his 40s in the Calgary zone. There are no known comorbidities at this time.

· Date of death: 5/13/2021. A male in his 70s in the Calgary zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: 5/13/2021. A male in his 80s in the North zone. The case included comorbidities.

Alberta has administered 2,086,589 doses of COVID-19 vaccine as of May 14. A total of 325,409 Albertans have been fully vaccinated. More vaccination data is here.

In the last week, Alberta has vaccinated 240,035 people, for a daily average of 34,290, down from the previous week’s average of 35,412.

A total of 325,409 Albertans, up 10,905, are now fully vaccinated.

The Central Zone has 2,398 active cases as of Saturday, a drop of 102. There are 64 hospitalizations, down four, and 10 people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday. The zone has had 147 deaths, with none reported today.

Over the last seven days, Central Zone’s active caseload has gone from 2,917 to 2,398, a drop of 519.

Hospitalizations have gone from 55 to 64, while the number of patients in ICU at Red Deer Regional has gone from nine to 10.
