Red Deer with 835 active COVID-19 cases

After a one-day blip on Wednesday, Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count was down again on Thursday.

The latest numbers from the province show the city with 835 active cases, a drop of 23 over the past 24 hours.

Recoveries are up 66 to 4,282 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to the city rose three to 5,115.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 38.

Province-wide, Alberta reported an additional 1,558 cases of COVID-19 Thursday out of 15,266 tests for a positivity rate of 10.2 per cent.

The province’s active case count sits at 24,586, down 376, while recoveries are up 925 to 188,475.

There are 722 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down 15, including 177 in intensive care, up eight.

Nine additional deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported Thursday bringing Alberta’s total to 2,132.

There were 276 new variant cases of concern identified over the past 24 hours. Variants now make up 30.6 per cent (7,519) of Alberta’s active cases.

The province reached a milestone on Wednesday by delivering its two-millionth dose of COVID vaccine.

Nearly 44 per cent of Albertans have received at least one dose with 322,247 now fully immunized with two doses.

It took 119 days for Alberta to reach one million doses administered and only 29 days to reach two million.

The Central Zone has 2,647 active cases as of Thursday, a decrease of 95. There are 68 hospitalizations, down two, and 11 people are now receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The zone has had 145 deaths linked to the virus, including one reported in the past day – a woman in her 90s who passed away May 10.
