Land Use Bylaw amendments aim to support city businesses
Red Deer city council has approved several Land Use Bylaw amendments city officials say are designed to cut back on red tape and offer additional opportunities for local businesses.
An amended site exception under the Land Use Bylaw will allow Drummond Brewery to explore adding an on-site outdoor patio at their brewery at 6610 71 Street in the Golden West Industrial Area. The brewery indicates the patio will be located at the front of their business, facing 71 Street, not facing the nearby residential area.
Council also approved a Land Use Bylaw amendment to give day care providers more flexibility in selecting locations for their business.
Brought forward by an existing child care provider, the amendment will allow day care providers to select sites within 300 metres of existing cannabis retail locations. The existing bylaw did not allow cannabis retail locations within 300 metres of daycare facilities; however, this amendment will enable child care facility operators the choice to set up shop within that boundary of an existing cannabis retailer, resulting in a broader selection of available sites.
