Red Deer with 863 active COVID-19 cases

The number of active cases of COVID-19 in the city of Red Deer has risen to 863.

That’s up 65 from Sunday leaving Red Deer with an active case rate of 811.1 per 100,000 people.

Recoveries are up 49 to 3,694 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose 104 to 4,593.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 36.

Province-wide, Alberta reported another 2,012 cases of COVID-19 on Monday. That’s out of 15,058 tests for a record positivity rate of 13.2 per cent.

There are 658 Albertans hospitalized because of COVID-19, 154 of them are in ICUs.

The number of active cases in Alberta has risen to 23,608, of which 64 per cent are variant cases of concern.

Four additional deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past 24 hours to bring Alberta’s total to 2,090.

The province’s reproduction value (R value) for the past week was 1.12 including 1.18 outside Calgary and Edmonton.

The Town of Okotoks and Rockyview County have been added to the province’s “hotspots” list and are now subject to the enhanced public health measures announced last week.

The Central Zone as a whole has 2,807 active cases as of Monday and 55 hospitalizations, including 10 people in the ICU at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The Central Zone has had 136 deaths linked to COVID-19, including one reported in the past 24 hours.
