Red Deer with 712 active COVID-19 cases

Red Deer has 712 active cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday, according to the latest numbers from the province.

That’s just three more than Tuesday’s previous record total of 709.

Recoveries are up 45 to 3,426 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose 49 to 4,174.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 36.

Province-wide, Alberta reported another 1,839 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. That’s out of 18,976 tests for a positivity rate of 9.7 per cent.

The province has 20,938 active cases, 226 more than Tuesday, including 13,193 variants of concern (63 per cent).

There are 643 Albertans in hospital because of COVID-19, an increase of eight, including 145 in intensive care, up two.

Another six deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported over the past 24 hours bringing Alberta’s total to 2,073. They include:

The Central Zone has 2,367 active cases as of Wednesday, a one-day decrease of 47. There are 56 hospitalizations, up one, and eight people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up two. The zone has had 134 deaths as a result of COVID-19, up two from Tuesday (both on April 26 – a male in his 60s and a male in his 50s).

As of Wednesday, 1,497,256 doses of vaccine have been administered in the province, with 28,471 of those doses being administered on Tuesday. There are 288,595 people that have received two doses of vaccine and are fully immunized. Approximately 26.2 per cent of Albertans have received at least one dose of vaccine.
