A long-time community partnership was celebrated in Red Deer on Tuesday, as representatives gathered in a socially-distanced manner to recognize the final installment of the $300,000 Red Deer Twilight Homes Foundation donation in support of the Red Deer Hospice Society expansion.

“Red Deer Twilight Homes Foundation has been a strong supporter of the Red Deer Hospice Society and this most recent donation to reduce our expansion mortgage is further proof of their dedication to the important work we do in our community,” shared Jerri Taylor, Executive Director at the Red Deer Hospice Society, in a press release.

“When the Foundation was first approached in 2002 to support the building of a Hospice in Red Deer we gladly stepped forward to help initiate the fundraising campaign,” explained Paul Gowan, Board member with the Red Deer Twilight Homes Foundation. “During the next few years, we were pleased to donate a total over $250,000 for its construction.”

“The Red Deer Hospice has demonstrated over time, the real need for such a facility in Red Deer and area,” added Gowan. “When we were approached again to help the campaign to enlarge the facility, we had no hesitation and were proud to partner with the Hospice Society, this time choosing to donate $300,000 over three years.”

In 2019, Red Deer Hospice Society completed a $5 million expansion to better serve the end-of-life care needs of Red Deer and central Alberta. In addition to six additional resident rooms, the expanded house now includes enhanced care and family areas as well as a multi-purpose community space.

Impressive community support has resulted in Red Deer Hospice only needing an additional $1 million to pay off the remaining balance of the mortgage.

The Red Deer Twilight Homes Foundation was established by the Kiwanis Club in 1954. Since that time, its Mission has been to improve the quality of life of senior citizens and other identified groups.

Officials note, the Foundation was instrumental in both the initial construction of the Red Deer Hospice Society in 2005 and the recent expansion.
