Addressing A Community Need

United Way’s Period Promise launches May 1

Apr 23, 2021 | 1:40 PM

United Way of Central Alberta has announced plans to address ‘period poverty’ in our community.

The organization’s 2021 Period Promise Collection Campaign will run from May 1 – 28.

Officials say there are many ways to help out and make the campaign flexible for people to get involved.

If you’re interested in running a classic product collection campaign at work or with your union, or run a collection with your neighbours, family and friends, you can check out the toolkit link below.

If you want to make a financial donation, or start your own virtual fundraiser and then ask others to do the same, Join our virtual campaign on JustGiving.

If you want to become a social media champion and get more people aware of the work that needs to be done, follow, like and share the United Way’s posts on your favourite platform.

The United Way’s toolkit should have all the tools you need, and is available on their website so you can ready yourself for launch.

United Way officials say lack of access to menstrual products has always been an issue in Alberta, and COVID-19 has made affording menstrual products more difficult for tens of thousands of Albertans.

Many community organizations the United Way partners with have said there is more demand than ever for free menstrual products. And, based on the organization’s research, they suggest that people who don’t have access to product miss out on work, school, social events, and opportunities to contribute to their community.

“Periods are a fact of life. We’re working hard to make sure they aren’t a barrier – and we look forward to having you join us in that effort.”
