New trial date set in Rimbey shooting incident

A new trial date has been set for a Lacombe County man charged in a Rimbey shooting last summer.

Jade John Edward Slofstra, 32, was scheduled to go to trial on April 21. However, a new trial date has now been set for Dec. 15, 2021 in Rimbey provincial court.

Slofstra faces charges of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon contrary to an order, and breach of recognizance in the July 5, 2020 incident.

That’s when RCMP responded to a request for help from EMS after a female witness called 911 in relation to a shooting at a rural property in Rimbey.

Mounties say the shooting occurred after a brief altercation that had escalated between two males. The victim was able to drive away from the location of the shooting, but was later airlifted to hospital suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.

The male suspect turned himself into police the next day.

RCMP described the shooting as an isolated incident.
