Innisfail council awards contract for ‘Ball Diamond 7’ upgrades
With a funding contribution from council and the input and participation of a dedicated group of community members, significant improvements to ‘Ball Diamond 7’ (located adjacent to the Innisfail Arena) will now be undertaken and completed.
On Apr. 12, Innisfail council awarded a contract to Innisfail-based Howell’s Excavating Ltd. to commence a number of significant upgrades that will leave the diamond in a much more playable state — and as a result, enhance its ability to host larger-scale ball tournaments and events going forward.
Town officials say the project is being jointly undertaken by the Town and the Community Facility Enhancement Association (CFEA). The Town will cover the costs associated with construction of the site’s basic amenities (grading, grass, shale, fencing, etc.), while the CFEA over time will contribute to the development and installation of a number of enhanced features (such as irrigation, bleachers, concrete dugouts with storage, scoreboard, lighting, etc.).
“We are very pleased to be working with the Community Facility Enhancement Association to create what will surely be a well-used diamond,” says Steven Kennedy, Director of Operations for the Town of Innisfail, in a press release. “This facility will serve as a great home for many of our local teams while hosting others from around the region.”
