Town of Innisfail introduces Skatepark Ambassador Program for local youth

Apr 21, 2021 | 3:25 PM

Local youth and young adults in Innisfial aged 13-25 are being encouraged to register for a program, facilitated by Academy Skateboard Collective, that will be the first of its kind in Canada.

Participants in this four-day workshop will be safely introduced to the skatepark environment; taught concrete skills on how to foster and facilitate a positive, inclusive environment; learn about safety, injury prevention and concussion awareness, and what to do in the event of an emergency. Finally, all participants will be trained on how to identify and effectively resolve peer-to-peer conflict at the skatepark.

“We’re very excited to be able to offer this program for our youth,” says Kane Williams, Recreation Program Coordinator for the Town of Innisfail. “This is an opportunity for youth to participate in a valuable and unique program that is currently being offered only at the Innisfail Skatepark.”

An application process is open to those interested in registering, but due to a limited number of available spaces only selected applicants will be chosen to participate. Each participant who successfully completes the program will receive a certificate endorsed by Canada Skateboard. Prizes will also be awarded during the course of the training.
