1,699 new COVID cases in Alberta Wednesday

EDMONTON, AB– Due to a technical problem, the government of Alberta has released only limited COVID-19 data for Wednesday, April 21.

Over the past 24 hours, there were 1,699 new cases confirmed out of 18,412 tests across the province for a positivity rate of about 9.5%.

There are now 18,873 active cases in Alberta.

“We have confirmed another 1,332 variant cases in the last 24 hours. Variants now make up about 59% of active cases in the province,” tweeted Dr. Deena Hinshaw.

“I remain concerned about the high spread in our province. We all must continue to work together on behalf of our loved ones, neighbours, co-workers and communities to bend the curve & drive cases down provincewide,” she added.

In total, 35,785 doses of vaccine were administered yesterday, which brings the provincial total to more than 1.23 million.
