Ponoka waiving fees for seasonal patios

Add Ponoka to the growing list of municipalities making it easier for businesses to launch seasonal patios.

Lacombe and Red Deer have both approved similar measures aimed at assisting businesses impacted by provincial health restrictions.

Currently, COVID-19 rules restrict indoor dining.

“The Town knows that some businesses are struggling under these health restrictions and we’re committed to doing everything we can to support local businesses during these challenging times,” said Sandra Lund, Chief Administrative Officer. “That is why development permit fees will be waived under the new program.”

“Development Services staff will work closely with each business to guide them through the application and approval process as quickly as possible. We know that setting up outdoor patios is an urgent need for some of our local businesses. The Town is committed to expediting the process for those who apply.”

Applicants for the program will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and will need to provide details of the proposed patio.

The program will run until October 15, 2021 for patios on public property, ending in time for snow clearing operations to resume.
