Driver deceased after collision Saturday near Alix

One person has passed away following a crash in central Alberta Saturday.

Bashaw RCMP say it was about 12:45 p.m. when they responded to a two-vehicle collision at Highway 12 and Highway 601, just east of Alix.

Investigation initially determined that a vehicle was northbound on Hwy 601 when it was struck by a vehicle travelling east on Hwy 12 causing the northbound vehicle to roll.

The 58-year-old driver of the northbound vehicle was declared deceased on scene.

The other driver was taken to hospital by STARS in serious but stable condition.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area as travel delays are expected while police investigate.

Clarification: Alberta RCMP clarified on Monday that the two vehicles struck each other and that an exact cause or fault has not yet been determined.
