Trial dates set for man charged in fatal Red Deer shooting
A man charged in a fatal shooting outside a Red Deer Walmart in 2019 is going to trial next year.
This, after 19-year-old Chase Freed pled not guilty to all six counts against him in Red Deer Court of Queen’s Bench on Monday via video link from the Edmonton Remand Centre.
Freed is charged with second-degree murder in the death of C.J. “Jim” Williams on Dec. 20, 2019. He also faces two counts of attempted murder, failing to stop while being pursued by a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and theft of a motor vehicle.
He was originally scheduled to have a preliminary hearing in Red Deer court this July. However, a 19-day jury trial has now been set for June 6-30, 2022.
