Red Deer active cases hits 275, over 15,000 province-wide

Thirty new cases of COVID-19 were identified in Red Deer on Tuesday, bringing the total number of active cases in the city now to 275, up six from Monday.

3,398 cases have been identified in Red Deer since the start of the pandemic, with 3,089 of those since recovered, up 24 from Monday.

Province-wide, 1,081 new cases of coronavirus have been identified in Alberta over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of active cases to 15,087. That’s up 238 from Monday.

705 new variant cases have also been reported today, bringing the total number of active variant cases in the province to 7,910 or 52.4 per cent of all active cases.

With 11,965 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the percentage of test results coming back positive is roughly 9.0 per cent.

402 Albertans are currently in hospital with COVID-19, up 12 from Monday, while 88 of those patients are in ICU, down two from the day before.

There have been three additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours.

  • Date of death: March 25. A male in his 60s in Edmonton Zone. The case included comorbidities.
  • Date of death: April 11. A male in his 70s in Calgary Zone. The case included comorbidities.
  • Date of death: April 12. A female in her 80s in Calgary Zone. The case included comorbidities.

As of April 11, 932,258 doses of COVID vaccine have been administered in Alberta, with phase 2C of the province’s vaccine rollout program now underway.

This includes:

  • Physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists and all other health care professionals and their office or support staff who provide in-person, direct patient care.
  • Individuals working in patient care facilities or providing services directly to clients in the community for Alberta Health Services, Covenant Health, Alberta Precision Labs, DynaLife, and students undertaking placement practicums in clinical areas.
  • Healthcare workers on First Nation reserves and Metis Settlements.

Elsewhere throughout the province, Alberta Health Services (AHS) Calgary Zone is reporting 6,938 active cases of coronavirus, with Edmonton Zone reporting 3,717, North Zone 2,005, Central Zone 1,346 and South Zone with 936. There are 145 additional active cases of COVID-19 in unconfirmed locations.

As of Tuesday, AHS Central Zone has 43 COVID-19 patients in hospital, with five of those in ICU at Red Deer Regional Hospital.
