Construction to begin on new roundabout near Red Deer Regional Airport

Construction of a roundabout at Highway 2A and Township Road 372 (Airport Drive) near Springbrook, will begin on Monday, April 19.

The project will be completed in September 2021.

Signage and barricades will be in place, and a detour will be in effect. Drivers are asked to exercise caution, slow down and observe all speed limit signs in the area.

It was last December when county council gave the go-ahead for construction of a roundabout at the intersection and awarded the contract for the project to Northside Construction Ltd. for the sum of $5.8 million. Red Deer County has agreed to pay $857,000 towards the project while the province has agreed to pay the remaining costs.

County officials say the current intersection sees around 20,000 vehicles per day.
