Provincial Case Counts Climbing

City of Lacombe adjusts restrictions to rising COVID cases

Apr 9, 2021 | 1:48 PM

The City of Lacombe has updated its current public health measures in place, following the announcement by the government this week that the province has returned to Step 1 in its path forward to reopening.

In an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19 throughout the province, the return to Step 1 was made due to a steep, current, and predicted rise of variant cases throughout the province which threatens to overwhelm the healthcare system.

As of Apr.8, the City of Lacombe has 43 active cases of COVID-19, while the province has recorded over 12,000.

The return to Step 1 means the following restrictions are in place for the City of Lacombe:

  • No indoor social gatherings in any setting
  • Outdoor gatherings have a maximum of 10 people
  • Weddings can have a maximum of 10 people. Funerals services must be limited to 20 attendees with mandatory masking and 2 metre physical distancing between households
  • No festivals or events are permitted
  • Working from home should be implemented whenever possible
  • Places of worship must limit their regular attendance to 15 per cent of the fire code occupancy with mandatory masking
  • There is restricted access to some businesses which started April 7

A more detailed list of these measures can be found at https://www.alberta.ca/enhanced-public-health-measures.aspx.

Residents who wish to report a violation of these measures can submit a complaint to AHS public health inspectors at 1-833-415-9179.

Additionally, the City of Lacombe has instituted many changes to its regular operations. The Lacombe Memorial Centre is closed to most bookings for as long as provincial guidelines remain in place. Access will be permitted for Lacombe FCSS. The east corridor will not be open to the public.

The Mary C. Moore Public Library is closed except for curbside pickup; and Anna Maria’s Café will be closed due to public health restrictions as of April 9.

The Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex is closed to all users and user groups until public health restrictions are lifted.

The Kinsmen Aquatic Centre will remain open only for limited, pre-booked programming including youth lessons and household-only private pool rentals.

Lacombe City Hall will remain open; however, residents are discouraged from attending in person if possible. City staff encourages residents to conduct their City business online or over the phone. Instructions on how to do so can be found at www.lacombe.ca.

The City Infrastructure Services building and the Lacombe Fire Department are both closed to the public except by appointment or until restrictions are lifted.

City of Lacombe council meetings can be viewed live via the City of Lacombe YouTube channel.
