Rocky and Clearwater County endorse proposed crisis hotline

On December 11, 2020, the House of Commons passed a motion introduced by Conservative MP Todd Doherty to bring in a national three-digit suicide prevention hotline (988) to Canada.

The federal government is asking all municipalities across Canada for their support by passing a similar motion as soon as possible, noting that COVID-19 pandemic has increased the demand for services by 200 per cent.

Clearwater County sent a letter to Yellowhead MP Gerald Soroka noting that they discussed the request for support of establishing of a three-digit hotline.

The county endorsed the new 988 crisis line initiative on February 23.
