Red Deer with 202 active COVID cases as provincial numbers continue rise

Alberta reported another 1,351 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, including 575 new cases of variants. It’s the largest single-day increase so far in 2021.

That’s out of 14,051 tests completed over the past 24 hours for a positivity rate of 9.6 per cent.

The number of active cases in the province is up 655 to 11,464, of which 43.2 per cent are variants.

One more deaths stemming from COVID-19 was reported over the past 24 hours to bring Alberta’s total to 2,002.

There are 333 Albertans in hospital because of COVID-19, an increase of five, including 79 in intensive care, up three.

755,831 vaccine doses have been administered in Alberta as of April 6. 133,401 Albertans are now fully immunized with two doses, an increase of 10,129 over the past day.

In Red Deer, the number of active cases as of Wednesday sits at 202, a decrease of 13.

There have been 3,003 recoveries, an increase of 31 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose by eight to 3,239. The number of deaths in the city linked to COVID-19 remains 34.

The Central Zone has 934 active cases, up 56 from Tuesday, with 32 hospitalizations, including six receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The zone has had 123 deaths attributed to COVID-19.
