RDC to offer online and in-person learning this September

Red Deer College officials say they’ve developed a comprehensive plan to safely welcome learners back to campus this fall.

It was announced last week by Advanced Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides that post-secondary institutions should prepare for the full return of in-person learning, which stopped just over one year ago.

RDC says it will continue to offer online learning, however, as well as blended and hy-flex course and program delivery options. Hy-flex allows students to select on-site or online learning, where possible.

“Our students are excited about the increased on-site learning opportunities for Fall term, while still having the ability to choose from several course delivery options that best meet their needs and circumstances throughout the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” says Kylie Thomas, RDC Vice President Academic and Research. “This past year, our faculty and staff have done a tremendous job adapting their teaching to a variety of delivery models to safely and effectively meet our students’ academic requirements.”

In certain cases, students will need to attend the school regardless of their primary method of learning in order to complete shops and labs.

Services will be offered online and in-person Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The college says regardless of what a student chooses, they will be able to seek supports and information.

“It has been very impressive to reflect on how our college and community have been resilient this past year and continue to collaborate and persist through the challenging times of the pandemic,” says Nunoda. “With everyone’s diligence, we will continue to work at keeping everyone in our college community safe by following Alberta Health Services (AHS) and RDC health and safety protocols.”

Students, current and prospective, can begin looking at the 2021/22 timetable on April 20. It will identify which methods of delivery are available through each program, including the new Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences.

Registration for current students begins May 4, and new students can register on May 18.

Students may also begin applying to live in RDC’s residences.
