Active COVID case count in Red Deer nudges higher

The number of active cases of COVID-19 in Red Deer edged up slightly on Monday to 210.

That’s up three cases from Sunday, with recoveries standing at 2,861 – up four from Sunday. Total cases attributed to Red Deer so far is 3,105 – up seven from Sunday.

The number of deaths in Red Deer linked to COVID-19 remains at 34, with the last one tallied on March 23, linked to an outbreak at Red Deer Regional Hospital.

Meantime, Alberta is reporting 545 new cases of COVD-19 on Monday. That’s brings the total number of active cases in the province now to 7,922 – up 224 from Sunday.

With 8,362 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the province’s positivity rate is 6.5 per cent.

The number of new variant cases identified on Monday was 249, bringing the number of active variant cases in the province to 2,152 which represents 27.2 per cent of active cases in Alberta.

The number of Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19 is 288, up 11 from Sunday, while the number of patients in ICU is 64, up one from Sunday.

No new deaths were reported on Monday, leaving the virus’ death toll in our province at 1,983.

The number of coronavirus cases identified in the province since the start of the pandemic is 146,885 with 136,980 of those now recovered.

As Alberta moves to Phase 2B of its vaccination strategy starting March 30, 608,032 doses of vaccine have been administered in the province to this point.

Mountain View County: 15 (-1), 1 death (–)

Olds: 14 (–), 0 deaths (-)

Kneehill County: 12 (+2) 3 deaths (–)

County of Stettler: 7 (–), 2 deaths (–)

The Central Zone has 719 active cases as of Monday, an increase of 19. There are 31 hospitalizations, down two from Sunday, and four people are receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down one. The zone has had 122 deaths as a result of COVID-19, none of which were reported today.
