911 calls help Ponoka RCMP recover stolen vehicle, arrest wanted man

Mar 24, 2021 | 5:54 PM

A 911 report of a suspicious and possibly stolen van led the Ponoka RCMP to intercept an associated suspicious vehicle and arrest a suspect.

It was 12:44 a.m. on March 23 when Ponoka RCMP received a call about an abandoned van. The report was that suspects left the van behind in a parking lot and departed in a newer silver car. The car was located on Highway 53 by Ponoka Mounties and a traffic stop was initiated.

Police say information led to an occupant of the car being arrested for possession of stolen property. A search of the male led to the recovery of methamphetamine, shotgun shells, and a large knife which he had strapped to his torso.

The abandoned van was determined to be previously stolen out of Edmonton.

James Marc Stempien, 26, faces charges including possession of stolen property, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon.

Stempien has been released on conditions to appear in Ponoka provincial court April 23.

Another 911 call received by Ponoka RCMP yesterday morning led to an arrest and multiple warrants being executed.

At 2:32 a.m., the RCMP received a complaint of a suspicious parked vehicle and a male acting suspiciously outside of it.

Ponoka RCMP responded, located the vehicle and arrested 34-year-old Jordy Brent House who was wanted on multiple arrest warrants out of Edmonton and Stony Plain. He has been remanded in custody.

RCMP are thanking the public for their contribution to a safer Ponoka community.
