Dual Credit Learning Opportunities Continue to Grow

The Board received a report regarding continued growth in Dual Credit learning opportunities for high school students across schools in Wolf Creek. The Division has 32 students engaged in this learning opportunity for Semester Two through Athabasca University, Red Deer College, Olds College and Bow Valley. Wolf Creek continues to work with post-secondary partners in developing and enhancing these programs, while utilizing the grant that was awarded from Alberta Education around dual credit opportunities.

Capital Plan Approved

The Board approved its 2022-2025 Capital Plan, with no changes from this past year. The plan lists the Division’s capital priorities, which are:

1. A replacement school for Iron Ridge Elementary Campus in Blackfalds.

2. A replacement school for École J.S. McCormick School in Lacombe.

Welcoming, Caring, Respectful and Safe Learning Environment Policy Review Completed

The Board completed its annual review of Board Policy 19 – Welcoming, Caring, Respectful and Safe Learning Environment. The review is to ensure that the policy is in compliance with Section 33 and 35.1 of the Education Act, but also provides the Board the opportunity to reaffirm its policy that respects and protects all staff and students across the Division.

Summer School 2021 Enrollment Opens

The Board received a report regarding registration for Summer School 2021, which is now open. There are currently 23 students enrolled. WCPS is offering a full course complement for students. The delivery method is yet to be determined based on government regulations, but may involve face-to-face instruction, online instruction or a combination of both.

Virtual Parent Information Meetings for Bright Futures Play Academy

The Board received a report that Learning Services has been actively working with parents who are interested in registering their 3 or 4 year old child in pre-kindergarten in Bright Futures Play Academy for the 2021-2022 school year. Virtual parent information sessions took place online on March 5, 9 and 11. Additional sessions may be added pending interest. Enrollment across the program for this time of year is keeping pace with the enrollment typically received during the past few years. The registration deadline for Bright Futures Play Academy is March 31.
