Temporary road closure next week in Blackfalds

The impact of annual spring freeze/thaw temperatures are causing the Town of Blackfalds to take the precautionary measure of temporarily closing Broadway Avenue north from Aspen Lakes Boulevard to slightly south of Township Road 40-0 to prevent unnecessary road degradation.

This portion of Broadway Avenue will be closed starting Monday, March 22, and will remain so until April 12, weather permitting.

Infrastructure Services Manager, Laura Thevenaz explains that high water conditions combined with vehicle traffic can cause a serious negative impact on road structures.

“During the spring freeze-thaw cycle, our Public Works department is limited in options to repair major rutting in this roadway,” she adds. “To preserve the structural integrity of the road, and for the safety of its users, the Town has chosen to temporarily close this section of Broadway Avenue.”

Motorists are requested to use Highway 2A for the time being. Access will be given to local traffic only (i.e., directly affected residences only) and the public will be notified when the road is re-opened.
