Red Deer with 101 active COVID-19 cases Thursday

After dipping below the century mark for a few days, Red Deer again has more than 100 active cases of COVID-19.

There are 101 active cases in the city as of Thursday, according to the province’s latest numbers, five more than there was on Wednesday.

Red Deer added six recoveries over the past day for a total of 2,793 as the overall number of COVID-19 cases attributed to the city rose by 11 to 2,927. The number of deaths in Red Deer stemming from COVID-19 remains 33.

Across the Central zone there are 475 active cases as of Thursday and 30 hospitalizations, including six in intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The zone has had 120 deaths stemming from COVID-19.

Province-wide, Alberta confirmed 505 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. That’s out of 10,934 tests for a positivity rate of about 4.6 per cent.

The number of active cases in the province is up 308 to 5,084, while recoveries are up 338 to a total of 133,086.

There are 264 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, up two from Wednesday, including 43 in intensive care, down one.

One additional COVID-19 death was reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours to bring the province’s total as of Sunday to 1,957. The latest reported death occurred March 12 – a man in his 60s in South zone. The case included comorbidities.

As of Wednesday, there have been 1,188 total variant cases of COVID-19 in the province, 1,169 of which are the UK variant, 91 more than Wednesday, 17 are the South African variant, and two are the Brazilian variant. There are 205 total variant cases of concern in the Central zone.
