Red Deer with 96 active COVID-19 cases

There was a slight uptick in Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count on Wednesday.

The latest update from the province shows 96 active cases in the city, up three from Tuesday.

Red Deer added 11 recoveries over the past day for a total of 2,787 as the overall number of COVID-19 cases attributed to the city rose by 14 to 2,916.

The number of deaths in Red Deer stemming from COVID-19 remains 33.

There is now just one active case linked to the COVID-19 outbreak at Olymel, along with 513 recoveries and three deaths out of 517 total cases.

Elsewhere in the Central zone as of Wednesday:

Across the zone there are 455 active cases as of Wednesday and 28 hospitalizations, including six in intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The Central zone has had 120 deaths stemming from COVID-19.

Province-wide, Alberta confirmed 479 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. That’s out of 10,827 tests for a positivity rate of about 4.7 per cent.

The number of active cases in the province is up 142 to 4,776, while recoveries are up 63 to a total of 132,748.

There are 262 Albertans in hospital due to COVID-19, up two from Tuesday, including 44 in intensive care.

Four additional COVID-19 deaths were reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours to bring the province’s total as of Sunday to 1,956. The latest reported deaths include:

· Date of death: 3/14/2021. A male in his 80s in Calgary zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: 3/15/2021. A male in his 70s in Calgary zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: 3/15/2021. A male in his 40s in South zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: 3/16/2021. A male in his 90s in North zone. The case included comorbidities.

As of Wednesday, there have been 1,097 total variant cases of COVID-19 in the province, 1,078 of which are the UK variant, 50 more than Monday, 17 are the South African variant, and two are the Brazilian variant. There are 197 total variant cases of concern in the Central zone.
