The Red Deer Rebels announced Tuesday morning that captain Jayden Grubbe will undergo ACL surgery and miss the remainder of the 2021 season.

The team says he is expected to make a full recovery in time for the start of the 2021-2022 season.

Grubbe suffered the injury during the first period of last Friday’s game at the Westerner Park Centrium versus Lethbridge. He returned for a couple of shifts in the second period before leaving the game for good.

The former first round WHL Draft pick by the Rebels was named team captain on March 5. The 18-year-old Calgary native had a goal and two assists in five games this season before suffering his injury.
