COVID-19 swabbing and immunization moving to Westerner Park

Mar 17, 2021 | 10:57 AM

COVID-19 swabbing and immunization services in Red Deer will soon under one roof at a new location at Westerner Park.

Alberta Health Services says immunization services will begin at the new facility on March 21, and swabbing appointments will open at the site on March 29.

The new Westerner Park site will replace the current External Assessment Centre that has been providing COVID-19 swabbing since early last year, as well as immunizations since January.

Additional immunizations have been provided at the Johnstone Crossing Community Health Centre, however AHS says that site will focus on providing other core public health services once the Westerner Park site opens.

“The larger space at Westerner Park will house the required capacity for Red Deer, for both COVID-19 swabbing and immunization,” AHS says in a release.

“Additionally this site will offer increased capacity for immunization if needed based on vaccine supply. Both operations will continue to be provided in line with all applicable public health measures.”

Health Link and the AHS online booking tool will be updated to reflect the changes. Residents currently booked for immunizations starting March 21 will be notified of the new location for their appointment by the AHS auto dialer and email reminders.

Both COVID-19 swabbing and immunizations remain available by appointment only. Drops-ins are not permitted. To book an appointment visit www.ahs.ca/covid.

In addition, eligible Albertans can book appointments through participating pharmacies on the Blue Cross website.

All individuals are reminded to wait in their cars until five minutes before their appointment time, and not to arrive more than 10 minutes early.
